The National Museum of Western Art (National Museum of Western Art, referred to as NMWA), located in the cultural hub of Ueno Park, Taito Ward, Tokyo, near the park exit of Ueno Station, is the only national museum in Japan dedicated to Western art and a highly respected art sanctuary.

Le Corbusier designed the museum in the shape of a spiral seashell, allowing for the continuous addition of exhibition halls as it expands outwards. Inside, four radiating corridors connect the various functional areas, ensuring both sustainable expansion and the integrity and unity of the spatial structure. The new wing continues this design philosophy, organically integrating with the existing building while providing flexible and coherent spatial support for the future display and collection of artworks.
