Wegner (1914–2007) was one of the most influential Danish furniture designers of the 20th century and is widely known as the “Master of the Chair.” Renowned for his exceptional woodworking craftsmanship, elegant and understated forms, and deep attention to ergonomics, Wegner seamlessly integrated traditional Nordic craftsmanship with modernist design. Drawing inspiration from Chinese Ming furniture, Windsor chairs, and traditional Scandinavian furniture, he reinterpreted these influences through a distinctly modern design language. His most celebrated works include the CH24 Wishbone Chair, The Chair, and Shell Chair. Throughout his career, Wegner designed hundreds of pieces of furniture, leaving a profound influence on the development of Danish modern furniture and establishing his work as a lasting icon of Scandinavian design.
